“Homosexuals, Gays and Transvestites in Mindelo: Between Identities and Resistance” by Professor Lurena Delgado Silva is a book that is the result of ethnographic research carried out by the author in the city of Mindelo on the island of São Vicente in Cape Verde.

This dissertation, published in 2018 by Editora Livraria Pedro Cardoso Praia, presents a portrait of a community in search of unity, justice, understanding, inclusion and acceptance. The reader is presented with a detailed and informed investigation of the theme of homosexuality in São Vicente, analyzing how it is perceived inside and outside the studied group, in Cape Verdean society.

The different ways in which this community acts in the labor market, in their families, at school, in affective relationships and in the struggle for their rights are presented and examined by Prof. Silva, and a chronology of the associations that defend the rights of the Cape Verdean Gay community over the years was also traced.

Through this book, we discover a bold community that remains resilient in the struggle for acceptance, inclusion, for their civil rights and ultimately for the betterment of life for the homosexual community throughout Cape Verde, both today and in the future.
