The Favourite

Qultura Recommends: The Favourite

A 10 time Oscar nominee, “The Favourite” is a period drama set in the UK during the reign of Queen Anne (Olivia Colman). The plot is centered around Sarah, Duchess of Marlborough (Rachel Weisz) and confidant to the queen, and her turbulent and homoerotic relationship with the queen, which seems seems to be threatened by the arrival at the court of her cousin, Abigail Masham (Emma Stone).

The plotting at the British court, the struggle for power in a lasting war and the romances that arise between the protagonists lead to unexpected alliances and revelations of hidden secrets.

From the historically guided costuming and soundtrack, both carefully and intelligently modernized, to the camera frames perfectly merged with the narrative. The favorite is an elegantly thought out film and quite possibly a future classic.
