Born in Senegal and daughter to a writer and a Kuwaiti diplomat and, Fatima Al Qadiri is a musician and conceptual artist that no one may ever accuse of being monotonous. Integrating art collectives with exhibitions at MoMA, publishing works on Kuwait flavors, the future of Arab storytelling and even making the soundtrack for “Atlantique”, the Cannes festival sensation about a couple faced with the refugee crisis.
Each album or EP of Fatima’s explores a promising concept: “Genre-Specific Xperience” about a world where the limitations of musical genres have become obsolete, “Asiatisch” about the stereotypes formed by Western civilization over the Far East or “Shaneera” where it embodies the persona of a dangerous and intelligent “evil queen” present in all Kuwaiti children who challenge binary notions of gender. In her latest album, “Medieval Femme”, premiered last week, Fatima is inspired by the classic poems of Arab women.
